I told you last week that we are on a clear out the pantry and freezer mission because we are overstocked. So, I only made it to Walgreens to do the Vitamin shampoo/ conditioner deal twice. The only reason I did that was because I had something that I had to buy at Walgreens anyway. So, instead of walking in Walgreens and just purchasing the item that I needed, I bought a shampoo and conditioner (in separate transactions) to get two $4 register rewards to use to pay for the other item. So instead of getting the one item that I needed for $10, I got that item plus a shampoo and conditioner (plus $0.09 folders for filler items.) The Vitamin shampoos and conditioners are regularly $6.99. I did find one with a try me free tag on it, so I actually will have made a little money when I get the mail in rebate back. My transactions looked like this, not including tax because I can't find my receipts. Oops!
Transaction #1
Vitamin shampoo $3.99
Out Of Pocket $3.99
Received $4 RR
Transaction #2
Vitamin conditioner $3.99
OOP $3.99
Received $4 RR
Transaction #3
Item I needed $9.99
(6) 2 pocket folders $0.54
Used (2) $4 RR
OOP $2.53
Total Before Sales and Coupons $25.47
Out of Pocket $10.51
I saved $14.96 or 59%!
The way I look at it I basically got the shampoo and conditioner free because I was going to have to spend the $10 anyway. Actually, better than free after the mail in rebate!
If you are going to Walgreens remember to check for the coupon books that I told you about here and here. I forgot to look for them when I was there because I was in a hurry. I plan to be out and about some Saturday so I will try to look for them then and let you know if I find them.

And that's why you should always plan your shopping trips... really plan!
